Tutoring usually implies there's a deficiency of some kind. A major learning issue or struggle or just writer's block. I believe that everyone can write. Everyone. But, they need the right key to help them see that they can. That's where coaching comes into play. Sometimes, you need coaching in grammar. Other times, you need help getting good ideas actually onto paper. Maybe you write really well, but then the inevitable writer's block comes in and takes that confidence away. I have worked with every type of learner and writer. I love researching, imagining, and finding that one concept that opens the door to discovery and free writing.
I spent six years teaching English Literature to grades 6-9. While teaching middle and high school, I focused on SAT vocabulary, logic, debate, and creative writing in an effort to show each child that they could not only write, but write well. I often use a creative approach to writing coaching, employing timed writing, creative prompts, and traditional essay form to help students not just write a paper, but also gain skills to do that on their own. My varied writing experience gives students and adults options and access to many different approaches. My projects include thesis copyediting, creative writing coaching and direction, high school writing classes, high school curriculum creation, middle school writing, and creative writing development and editing.
I graduated magna cum laude from Bryan College in 2009 where I received a dual-major in English Literature and Piano Pedagogy. While in college, I also worked on the student newspaper, The Triangle, and wrote presentation briefs for a local public speaking team. I was one class away from a writing minor--that will always plague me. I currently reside in suburban Atlanta area where I teach piano, coach writing, and enjoy the company of my wonderful husband and children.
